Wednesday challenge!

So the results are in :) I had hoped to get all the scraps cut down but that didn't happen. But sometimes it is a good reminder that this is a hobby and I quilt because I love to!  This is what I did do!
And these are the scraps still waiting to get cut :). To be fair I did get a lot cut. I had two bags and extra when I started
And this smile makes it all worth it. Little man is going to preschool in a month,  he needed a quilt and a pillowcase and minions are his favorite :)
Pattern moda bakeshop (modified) and fabric one in a minion.

Progress? Yes!
I have been slowly cutting away and although it might not seem like less I actually managed to fit all my small scraps that have not been sorted into one plastic bag yay! My trusty helper felt like I needed to cut some more however and helped me get some out ;)
So here is an easier way to see my accomplishments so far! Here are my scrappy tumblers last week I had one row
And theses are my 1.5" projects estimated time of completion 2032 lol
So back to the cutting mat! And the organizing!

Time to tidy up!

Since I had my adorable baby girl I haven't really had time (three kids will do that I suppose ) Either way the scraps have been piling up. Unsorted and un cut! Well Jo issued a challange to finish something up, and I accepted!  My goal is to cut as much as I can up into tumblers and 2" squares.. and some 1.5" too!
That way I can tackle my projects!
 And organize my closet
With the assistance of my supervisor :)
 Wish us luck!

mystery quilt!

This year I decided to make the mystery quilt again :). It is a fun project and when made in pieces it seems more manageable and less likely to become a wip (work in progress) and then be left in the sewing closet forever lol. I changed the colors so did a lot of other quilters. Mainly because this quilt is a chance to clear the stash.
Here is the link to all the beautiful quilts that have been made from Bonnie Hunter's beautiful pattern
http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2015/01/mystery-monday-link-up-part-6.html?m=1

And here is my quilt :). It is going in our baby girls room, which is currently the guest room (she is due in 10 days yay)

I have a backing for the quilt as well... but a certain dog (my father in laws) decided to mark it as his with pee! (Good thing he is cute)
I hope that I can save the backing by washing it gently and hang dry
Wish me luck :)

Hibernating?

It has been a while since I blogged. The reason is simple ( no I did not hibernate, although it sounds great lol) I had waaayy too much on my plate. It began when I realized that in order to get into nursing school I would have to take 2 classes in the spring, well the semester had started so my only option was two 8 week hybrid classes that met at night! Let me tell you it was intense, but it is over and done with and I have one week off till summer class starts.

During this time I worked on a very fun and special project! I am partaking in a Round Robin quilt! yay it is so much fun! My friend Sandy's quilt had landed on my doorstep. I usually do not work with batiks so it was a fun change for me I added the outer border of vines to it :)

Also my mom visited over easter. We had a great time, but as always time went by too fast! Here are some pictures of the bellamy mansion! So pretty

Some quilting up in here!

So apparently it rains a lot in NC, I am making up for 9 years worth of living in Ca I suppose!
Anyways I am trying to make the best of it, today I even let my kids go out and get soaking wet in their pajamas. ( my neighbors probably think that I am crazy)
On the quilting front I have been making some charity blocks for quilts of valor

design wall monday!

Or well in my case  design floor monday! Lol
I have been working on scrappy trips, a free bonnie hunter pattern.
This one is a scrap buster for sure. I realized that I had too many scraps and yhe only way I could justify keeping them was to use them :)
This past weekend was busy, we went to a train museum, which was a big hit with the kids.

And then we spent some time at the neighbors where Eli found this fly ride!
James is a little happier about North Carolina now that he is making friends

Moving into our new house!

It has been an especially busy week as we have moved into our new house! :)
I still can't believe that we could afford a brand new home.
We also planted an apple tree in the back and a pomegranate in the front,
The new neighbors seem nice and the neighborhood is very quiet. We'll except for the frogs lol, they are very loud. But in a cozy sort of way.

Snow day!

Today has been another snow day, ie my husband has been off.it has been so nice to have him homeAlthough I find it kinda hilarious that slush snow can cause so much chaos. We went to walmart for some dog food and mittens, watched some Olympics and made a delicious chicken kabob dinner.
It turn me out to be Middle East inspired which we enjoyed very much. Me because I have missed that food ever since I left Sweden ( Sweden has a lot of immigrants from the Middle East and they brought their yummy food) and my husband since he has deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan. I am almost finished with the boys quilts. They got to pick their own fabric :)

celtic solstice almost done!

The best part about this mystery quilt is that it has kept me focused on one project :)
It is smaller than I had first planned , I kinnda ran out of red.
overall I am loving this quilt though! I went with different colors but with bonnies directions it was easy to pick my palette!

Busy busy busy!

Since moving to Nc I have been super busy. We are buying a house! Yay
It is brand new built in 2013,! I never thought we would be able to afford such a nice house:)

Also it snowed here last night! The kids are having a blast. Aaand my husband is off from work, because apparently this is a very big deal in North Carolina. Either way I am not complaining. We went to the food lion and got some groceries and made homemade pizza. We also got some apple cider to heat later.
It is a good day in North Carolina!

North Carolina

There has been a lot going on lately.  We got our house on base last week and on monday our furniture arrived. We have unpacked the bulk of it but there are still some things we are missing, such as the leash for our dog and the screws for the bunk beds! rhe search goes on. The boys are starting to enjoy the weather more. We went to the park today and they got totally muddy! Good thing we got a brand new washer and dryer :)

My sewing room is all set up! To see other quilters progress in the celtic solstice mystery go To http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2014/01/mystery-monday-link-up-part-6.html?m=1

We will be ringing in the new year here and then continue to jacksonville tomorrow. The kids are having a good time as well as there is a pool here! I have been playing around with the mystery quilt too! So much fun!

good morning from Colorado!

Yes we made it to colorado. It was a long trip though. The truck broke  down in Norco, so we had to spend a night in a motel :( . 2000$ later and we were on the road. By the time we got to Utah the trailer was Having Issues! We managed to sell it and move on.  It started snowing in the pass, but we still made pretty good time. As for the mystery I have only made about 20 four patches because I have been enjouing winter!

The pinwheels might save me!

It is time for the third clue in the mystery quilt! Pinwheels!
I was happy about the clue because my two other clues didn't go very well together, this was confirmed by my husband as he looked at them with a meh face. When I asked him he said they looked good on their own but not together! uh I had no plans on remaking them so I was just hoping for something that might tie them together,.. pinwheels is excellent for that!
I have seen a lot of fun layouts and I am getting very excited about it! Check them out here
http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2013/12/celtic-solstice-mystery-monday-link-up_4572.html

Here is my progress!

Due to limited amount of time I have only made 4 pinwheels! And next week I am bringing the quilting on the road!
That is right! This will be a trans american quilt, started in California and finished in North Carolina!
The movers are coming to inspect today. They will officially be moving us on wednesday and we head for Colorado on friday!
After christmas we will be driving to North Carolina!
Wish us luck :)
